Pioneering female scientists - Anti Covid Vacines

The most pressing challenge the world is facing in a hundred years is being solved by the work of pioneering female scientists at the forefront of the medical advances in anti COVID-19 vaccines.


•Pfizer - BioNTech Vaccine:


Developed by Dr Özlem Türeci, Co-founder Chief Medical Officer BioNTech SE with her husband Ugu Sahin , Co-founder and CEO


•Moderna Vaccine:


Dr Kizzmekia Corbett, immunologist and scientifice lead at The National Institutes of Health


•Oxford- AstraZeneca:


Professor Sarah Gilbert vaccinologist at University of Oxford who lead the team that achieved the breakthrough with assistant professor Teresa Lambe and others at the university’s Jenner Institute


Their work was made possible by that of Dr June Almeida who discovered the first corona virus in 1964 at St Thomas Hosptial, as revealed by Elsevier Chairman Youngsuk Chi


Dr Almeida, who died in 2007 at the age of 77 is finally-post humously- being recognised as a pioneer for her work.


Their work as female scientists stands out as virologists, immunologists and vaccinologists are still very much In minority. Women in STEM have much to contribute.
